Dear Betsy, I stayed within the 1000 cals per day. At first I thought I could not, but i read about eating slowly. I found that the slower I ate, the fuller I became. Before I knew it, I was not eating a 1000 cals a day, which is a no, no. I write this on Oct 4, 2017 and to date I have lost 72 lbs and I am very active. I have energy I have not had in many years. I am 56 years old and now I walk 4 to 8 1/2 miles a day. I am in the phase two plan, and I am eating around 1500 cals a day.
