For me personally, my decision was based on my compassion and love for animals. I am also concerned about the inhumane treatment of farm animals, including dairy cows, chickens, pigs. Factory farms dominate U.S. food production, employing abusive practices that maximize agribusiness profits at the expense of the environment, our communities, animal welfare, and even our health. These animals are bred to grow unnaturally fast and large for the purpose of maximizing meat, egg, and milk production for the food industry. Their bodies cannot support this growth, which results in debilitating and painful conditions and deformities. I recommend to anyone who wants to learn about factory farming to watch the documentary Food Matters (available on Netflix and Amazon). Forks Over Knives is another documentary which examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.
