I just started Phase 1, and I’m wondering about the best way to handle the fact that I am going to be going on a cruise in a little over a month. I know that I won’t be able to follow the Phase 1 diet while I am on the cruise, but I don’t know how to approach this situation.
Is the best option to simply stay on Phase 1 right up until the cruise, then start it over again when I get back? Or should I try to move into Phase 2 for the week and a half before the cruise and then restart with Phase 1 when I get back?
I thought about putting off getting started because I knew this vacation would throw things off, but I knew that there would always be a reason not to start.
I appreciate any advice!

Phase 1 up until your cruise, then familiarize yourself with phase 2, (increase your calories a little so you don’t find yourself starving at the buffet line) I would go on a “loose” version of Phase 2 for the cruise itself. Meaning Be more cautious with your breakfast/lunches, but enjoy your dinners. You don’t have to polish off everything, but do go ahead and take bites of things to taste them and enjoy, just don’t go overboard. Enjoy the best foods on the cruise, but in moderation. Alcohol is expensive so that alone should deter you, however you could enjoy a drink here and there. Have fun on active excursions that get you moving and enjoying life, this takes your mind off of always eating.
Go back to Phase 1 when you return until you hit your goal weight.
Hope this helps!
January 10, 2017 at 8:41 pm #11201The food on cruise lines is usually fabulous! For me, I guess I would start my 90 days Phase One after the vacation instead of watching everything so close that it makes meal time less enjoyable. I don’t mean to be a glutton! But to be able to enjoy things you have never had before or may not have again and so forth. Just my thought which really does not mean much….
January 10, 2017 at 10:52 pm #11211Thanks for the suggestions. The approach makes a lot of sense. I’m just a little over a week in now, and I’m really glad that I didn’t wait to start. I’ve lost 8 lbs. so far. Some of that was probably very easy to lose holiday cookie weight, but I’ve never had such a quick start on a new diet. On top of that, I don’t feel hungry.
I know the weight loss will slow down a bit now, but hoping to make some good progress before setting sail in February. Looking better in my dive skin will make scuba diving even more enjoyable!
January 11, 2017 at 5:09 pm #11240I have been invited to attend some workshops in Ireland by a friend who needs an assistant. So I have started the program and will do my best to eat healthy; I probably will not be counting calories while away. Will resume Phase 1 on my return. I still have 5 weeks before I leave so hopefully will be down a significant number of pounds by then. I hope at least 10!
