I count week one as a success, since I lost more than twice as much weight as I could using just regular dieting and exercise (4 lbs! Yay!) On week 2 I began exercising and continued to carefully follow the dietary guidelines. Then disaster struck. Lets just say my stress level tripled due to my daughter’s medical condition and legal issues. I am halfway through week 2 and have lost only half of a pound. I know from past experience that exercise can cause a weight gain, especially at first when I increase muscle mass again; I hadn’t counted on all of this stress to slow me down further. I’m trying very hard not to get discouraged and depressed at this point. Hopefully some of the sources of anxiety will be resolved by the end of this month and I will be able to drop some weight more easily. I will continue the diet and exercise in the meantime, although it will seem more like treading water than making progress.
January 24, 2017 at 8:56 pm #11663If it’s any help, I’ve been on the program 3 weeks now. In the first 2 weeks I lost more than 9 lbs. In the third week, my weight loss slowed way down. I lost one pound. But I stuck with it, and now in my fourth week, the weight loss seems to be picking up again. I think sometimes when we diet, our bodies are making internal adjustments that don’t necessarily show up on the scale. Although I only lost 1 pound last week, my clothes fit looser than they did the week before. I was discouraged a bit too after having such great progress, but it seems like my body has caught back up and I’m losing weight again.
The good thing is that for every little bit you lose, you will look and feel that much better. Although we all want to get down to our goal weight, don’t forget to focus on the great progress you’ve already made.
Hang in there! I hope you have great success in spite of the stress. Hopefully your accomplishments will help you feel better even when you are facing a difficult situation.
February 11, 2017 at 2:50 pm #12265Thanks for the encouragement, Carol. It’s week six and I was down 7 pounds after ups and downs. The stressful situation has not resolved itself and has, in fact, become worse. I took a break from the plan when I drove out to meet my sister, who was on a business trip. I was off the plan for 24 hours. The scale will tell when check my weight again on Monday. Tonight I’m attending a birthday party. I hope they serve fruit. The beverages will probably all be soft drinks. I’ve learned that if you walk around with a filled cup, the hosts don’t keep asking you if you want something to drink. I feel recharged and ready to follow the rules again. I think the short break did me some good psychologically.
